Post-Surgery Care

Most patients report excellent recoveries following their oral and maxillofacial surgery procedures with Plaza Facial Surgery. However, as with any surgery, there are a few things you should keep in mind during your recovery period.

Firstly, it is important to take things easy for the first few days after your surgery. This means no strenuous activity or exercise – just plenty of rest! You may also experience some swelling and bruising around the surgical area, which is perfectly normal. To help reduce swelling, prop up your head with pillows when lying down and apply ice packs to the outside of your face for 20 minutes at a time, several times a day.

You will likely be given pain medication to help manage any discomfort you may feel. Be sure to take these as directed and do not drive or operate machinery while under the influence of pain medication. Stitches are usually removed 7-10 days after surgery, at which point you will be able to return to your normal oral hygiene routine. Until then, it is important to brush your teeth gently with a soft toothbrush and avoid using any mouthwash that contains alcohol.

Finally, be sure to follow up with your oral and maxillofacial surgeon for any post-operative appointments. These are important in order to ensure that your recovery is progressing as it should. By following these simple guidelines, you can help ensure a smooth and successful recovery after your oral and maxillofacial surgery procedure.
